Everyday I am “seeing”. I am continually observing nature, often unconsciously, as well as, reverting to my memory and imagination. My paintings reflect my immediate surroundings: it is translating this vision onto paper or canvas that is the discovery.

The subjects of my paintings consist of images that attract me and for which I feel affection. This ability to visualize our remarkable world enables me to simplify the images. The ideas that I feel strongest about, I will paint over and over, pushing the expanse as far as I can. I have a deep-seated desire to expand and challenge my courage and freedom with each painting, remaining a true believer in the theory that success comes with determination and perseverance.

The daily presence of children is an invaluable component to my visual world. Listening to children’s observations motivates me: they are pure and clear. This clarity helps me to create a sense of place and space through color and shape in any given time of day or year.

A professor once wrote to me, “..there is no such thing as shy art.” It is so very true.
