Past Show

For our November show, Camden Falls Gallery will be featuring work by Deborah Randall, Mark Shasha, and Stephan Giannini, our most recent additions to the gallery. Each of these painters comes to us with a passion for painting and a unique professional history. The various paths they have traveled in their artistic careers have now led them here to midcoast Maine, and we are delighted to share their work.

Deborah Randall, of Kennebunkport, Maine, grew up in Washington, DC and later lived in California. She holds degrees from the California College of the Arts and the Savannah College of Art and Design, and has held teaching positions at several colleges and universities throughout the northeast. Deborah’s dramatic skyscapes, as well as her many other paintings inspired by the natural beauty of Maine’s coastline and tidal marshes, have been widely exhibited throughout the past 20 years and have garnered her numerous awards and honors. About her paintings, Randall writes: “I hope to evoke the feeling of being present in the landscape by concentrating on communicating the quality of light and color, the feel of the breeze and vastness of space. When I can’t be outside, I often work from memory and intuition to convey atmospheric perspective and timelessness in nature.”

Mark Shasha, of Boston, Massachusetts, grew up on the coast in Connecticut and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1983. Upon moving to the Boston area after graduation, Shasha worked as an illustrator for several Boston-area publications. A passionate storyteller, he also wrote and illustrated children’s books for many years, becoming best known for his award-winning bestseller Night of the Moonjellies. Since 1999, he has devoted himself to his oil painting on a full-time basis. His work has been widely exhibited and collected nationwide, and he has won numerous awards and honors. He is considered to be one of New England’s leading painters, and has been listed in The American Artists Bluebook.

Stephan Giannini, of Portland, Maine, was among the 30 plein air painters who recently joined us for our First Annual Plein Air Wet Paint Auction, which was held over Labor Day Weekend to benefit the Camden Windjammer Festival. Stephan grew up in Chicago, where he attended the American Academy of Art and was involved with the city’s Palette and Chisel Art Club. An avid plein air painter and travel enthusiast, Stephan has painted all over the globe, including places as diverse as western Australia, Bali, Indonesia, and now mid-coast Maine. Stephan is also a muralist and has done extensive restoration work in many historical buildings and churches throughout the United States. He especially enjoys painting architectural scenes en plein air.
